What This Covers
- Metro, brick and subway tile splashbacks, straight or herringbone
- Mosaic splashbacks: glass, stone and metal-effect sheets
- Full-height and feature splashbacks behind hobs and ranges
- Precise cutting around sockets, switches and window reveals
- Wipeable, appropriate specification behind hobs and cookers
How I Work
A splashback is small but highly visible: at eye level, under kitchen lighting, right behind the worktop. Every cut around a socket and every grout line is on show, so the setting out and the finish have to be exact.
I set out from the key visible lines, usually the worktop and the centre of the hob or window, so the pattern sits balanced rather than starting from an arbitrary corner with an awkward cut on show.
Cuts around sockets and switches are measured and cut precisely, not hidden behind oversized socket plates. The difference between a neat splashback and an amateur one is almost entirely in these details.
What Affects the Cost of Kitchen Splashbacks?
Every job is different. These are the main factors that affect the price. I explain all of them during the quote visit so there are no surprises.
- Area size: a small hob splashback differs from a full run of worktop
- Tile type: mosaic and patterned layouts take longer than plain metro
- Number of cuts: sockets, switches and window reveals each add careful cutting
- Pattern: herringbone or a feature layout adds setting-out and cutting time
- Surface preparation: the wall behind may need making good before tiling
Straight from the Tiler
44 years of craft, City & Guilds qualified. Every job done to the same standard.
"Had the bathroom completely retiled after years of putting it off. Darren was professional from the first visit right through to the final cleanup. Arrived on time every day, protected everything and left the place spotless. The tiling is flawless. Wish we had done it sooner."
"Wet room in our main bathroom. Darren was recommended by our builder and it is easy to see why. He walked us through exactly what the job involved before he started, the tanking was done meticulously and the marble tiles are set out perfectly. The result is better than we imagined. Very fair price for the standard of work."
"We had Calacatta marble laid throughout the master bathroom and en suite. Darren was the only tiler we spoke to who properly understood the material, specifically around pre sealing, the correct adhesive and where the movement joints needed to go. Some of the others we consulted either did not know or glossed over it entirely. The result is exceptional and has held up perfectly. Would not hesitate to recommend him."
