Mosaic Tiling in Orpington
Sheet mosaic and hand-laid mosaic installation for feature walls, shower niches, splashbacks and floor borders.
Mosaic tiling across the Orpington area is most often requested as part of shower enclosure work — a glass mosaic niche, a feature panel in a larger bathroom renovation, or occasionally a complete shower floor in small hexagonal stone. I carry out mosaic detail work across BR5 and BR6 as part of complete bathroom projects, and the precision involved — consistent sheet alignment, careful cutting at edges and internal corners — is the same regardless of the scale.
What This Covers
- Sheet mosaic — glass, stone, ceramic, metal-effect and mixed
- Hand-laid individual mosaic for bespoke patterns
- Shower niches and recesses — waterproofed and tiled to match
- Feature walls and splashbacks — cut and fitted precisely
- Floor borders and medallions — planned and set out correctly
How I Work
Mosaic grout lines are at 1–2mm. Any inconsistency shows. I take the time to align sheets correctly — especially at edges and inside corners where sheets need to be cut individually.
Colour-matching grout is critical with mosaic. I mix and test before grouting the full area — grout colours always look different wet versus dry and different again when sealed.
For niches and recesses I tile the interior first, then finish to the face of the wall tile. Doing it the other way round always looks like an afterthought.

What Affects the Cost of Mosaic Tiling in Orpington?
Every job is different. These are the main factors that affect the price — I explain all of them during the quote visit.
- Area size — mosaic is labour-intensive regardless of how small the area is
- Mosaic type — hand-laid individual pieces take far longer than sheet mosaic
- Number of cuts and internal corners — niches and recesses add significant time
- Grout colour — test batches are needed to match wet and dry colour accurately
- Substrate condition — mosaic highlights any unevenness, so prep is thorough
Straight from the Tiler
44 years of craft, City & Guilds qualified. Every job done to the same standard.
"Had the bathroom completely retiled after years of putting it off. Darren was professional from the first visit right through to the final cleanup. Arrived on time every day, protected everything and left the place spotless. The tiling is flawless. Wish we had done it sooner."
"Wet room in our main bathroom. Darren was recommended by our builder and it is easy to see why. He walked us through exactly what the job involved before he started, the tanking was done meticulously and the marble tiles are set out perfectly. The result is better than we imagined. Very fair price for the standard of work."
"We had Calacatta marble laid throughout the master bathroom and en suite. Darren was the only tiler we spoke to who properly understood the material, specifically around pre sealing, the correct adhesive and where the movement joints needed to go. Some of the others we consulted either did not know or glossed over it entirely. The result is exceptional and has held up perfectly. Would not hesitate to recommend him."
