How I Work
Mosaic grout lines are at 1–2mm. Any inconsistency shows. I take the time to align sheets correctly — especially at edges and inside corners where sheets need to be cut individually.
Colour-matching grout is critical with mosaic. I mix and test before grouting the full area — grout colours always look different wet versus dry and different again when sealed.
For niches and recesses I tile the interior first, then finish to the face of the wall tile. Doing it the other way round always looks like an afterthought.
What Affects the Cost of Mosaic Tiling?
Every job is different. These are the main factors that affect the price — I explain all of them during the quote visit so there are no surprises.
- Area size — mosaic is labour-intensive regardless of how small the area is
- Mosaic type — hand-laid individual pieces take far longer than sheet mosaic
- Number of cuts and internal corners — niches and recesses add significant time
- Grout colour — test batches are needed to match wet and dry colour accurately
- Substrate condition — mosaic highlights any unevenness, so prep is thorough
